HIKE TO HELP REFUGEES, ARTHUR'S SEAT, EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND

The first-ever Scottish Hike to Help will take place on Saturday, December 6th, 2008 at Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh, Scotland. Participants will be raising funds for the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR).

UNHCR provides protection, shelter, emergency food, water, medical care and other life-saving assistance to over 33 million people worldwide, who have been forced to flee their homes due to war and persecution. When possible, UNHCR helps refugees and other displaced people return to their homes voluntarily, safely, and with dignity. When return is not possible, the agency assists with local integration, or resettlement to a third country.

Since its formation by the United Nations General Assembly on December 14, 1950, UNHCR has helped an estimated 50 million refugees restart their lives. Today, with a staff of more than 6,300 people, the agency is the lead humanitarian organization on the scene in 110 countries around the world.

100% of the donations made toward our Hike go directly to benefit refugees and raising money as a participant could not be easier! Our registration process allows you to send personalized messages to family and friends and provides instruction for direct online sponsorship.

Additional details for the day of the hike:

Each hiker is asked to raise 50 GBP ($100) or whatever amount of money each individual is capable and comfortable with raising. No hiker will be turned away based on contribution level and the most important aim is building awareness and enjoying the event.

Participants will hike to the top of Arthur’s Seat and back down which is approximately a 90 minute hike. Each individual is asked to consider their own health and mobility factors when deciding whether to participate. After the hike, we will head into town to have a meal together and warm up!
